Answer: Furniture stores deal with finance companies that charge them a percentage of the sale. The retailer gets their money upfront (less a 20-24% fee in most cases to offer 0% for 72 months) The customer then pays the finance company monthly and gets 0% for 72 months unless they’re late, then they back date the finance charges at a crazy high interest rate. Those retailers mark ALL their prices higher to absorb that 24% finance fee and advertise the financing as “free.” I’d rather keep our prices lower. I don’t think it’s fair to trick customers into thinking they get free, 0% financing while charging EVERY customer 20-24% more for products to cover that cost. This is the way almost all furniture stores do this. There really is no such thing as a free. Everyone pays for it.
If you can afford to buy your furniture don’t shop at stores where you’re paying extra so others can get 0% financing for SIX years on furniture.
